I am based in Singapore and have been for the last 3 years with my family. Originally Canadian but having traveled fairly extensively and lived in France, Switzerland and the US (with extended visits to Panama, Australia and New Zealand) we have now settled in Singapore and Southeast Asia (SEA) for the foreseeable future.
I started this blog to share some of my experiences and reflections on working and living in SEA and based on my previous experience. There are several questions I get asked and discussions I get into on a relatively frequent basis so I figured I would address them in a blog – as well as continuing to discuss them in person :). The topics will include some big picture strategic issues as well as some more operational issues. Hopefully this blog is helpful and useful to you!
Now a bit on my background, I have over ten years experience in consumer Internet in business development, product management and product development and am currently working as an independent consultant and startup advisor in Southeast Asia. This experience has been gained across Digital Media, Telecom Operator, Consumer Software and System Integrator companies across North America, Europe and Asia.
- Director of Strategic Partnerships in Singapore at Yahoo! for Southeast Asia (Business Development), with specific focus on Indonesia, Thailand, Ad Networks and developing
- Global consumer Product Manager at Symantec/Norton in California covering online distribution through partners (ISPs such as Softbank and T-Online as well as Yahoo!, Google, Adobe and Baidu);
- Product Development Manager at Cogeco Cable in Montreal, developing and launching consumer broadband products including a telephone service and subscription security service.
Currently, I have been as a consultant to Symantec in APAC on marketing and strategy assignments including market sizing, marketing research and go-to-market planning as well as media planning/buying for several other clients. In terms of experience, I have working in negotiating and managing global product and commercial partnerships; defining and executing market entry strategies; developing, launching and taking new products to market as well as the packaging and distribution of value added services and products for sale through online and traditional channels.
I am interested in leadership opportunities in business development, product management and general management – particularly those with start-ups, in emerging markets (products and regions) and with companies looking to exercise fundamental changes in their market.
